How I Got My New Bob Jogging Stroller Half Off

The Target Car Seat Trade-In Event

Our Bob jogging stroller is basically a member of our family. It goes everywhere with us.

All moms love Target. Just let me count the ways:

  1. Drive Up
Need diapers, but don't want to wake your baby sleeping in the car? Want to get out of the house, but not actually have to unbuckle your kids and go into the store? COVID keeping you from going into public for two freaking years. Thank you Target Drive Up for keeping us sane.

  2. In-store Starbucks
Iced coffee and the gouda bacon breakfast sandwich ✔️

  3. The Car Seat Trade-in Event

Now, if you’re a first-time mom you might be thinking, I already got my car seat at my baby shower, or a friend gave me their (unexpired) hand-me-down car seat. But what you don't know is you'll probably end up needing like 47 more car seats by the time your kids hit their teenage years, and 12 other strollers because you couldn't possibly use the UppaBaby to go running and your mom can't handle anything other than an umbrella stroller, and welp, if you get pregnant again you're gonna need that double jogger if you ever want to exercise again.

I kid, but not really. At one time, we had 5 different strollers and a wagon. And we have 6 car seats for 2 kids, because we live with my mom and she drives them around. 3 cars, 2 kids = 6 car seats.

And as you probably know strollers and car seats are expensive so a discount is very necessary. Enter The Car Seat Trade-in Event—trade in an old car seat and get a coupon for 20% off a new one.

If you don't know what the Target Car Seat Trade-in Event is here's the 411

  • It happens twice a year (April and September)

  • Bring in an old/expired car seat, booster, or base, and you'll get a 20% off coupon to buy a new car seat, base, booster, stroller or other select baby gear (swing, rocker, bouncer, walker, jumper, etc.)

  • The coupon usually expires after a few weeks

  • The trade-in box is usually at the front of the store by customer service. Drop off your old item and get the coupon from customer service.

  • Don't have anything to trade in? Ask for an old car seat, base, etc., on any of your local mom Facebook groups or in your Buy Nothing group. Buy Nothing has been a gold mine for me! I've gotten a Pottery Barn twin bed set and two Stokke Tripp Trapp high chairs. And I also give away all my outgrown baby/kid stuff in Buy Nothing. It's a win-win. I get it out of my house and someone else who needs it in my neighborhood can use it.

  • You can combine the coupon with a sale (this is where the magic really happens and how I got my Bob half off)

How I got my Bob jogging stroller half off

I’ve been a runner most of my life and I knew I was going to want a jogging stroller when my daughter was born so I could at least take her on walks and, maybe if the stars aligned, push her on a run. But, dang are jogging strollers expensive, especially the brands we hear the most about like Bob. So I went on a mission to get my Bob at an affordable price.

I first heard about the Target trade-in event through a new moms Facebook group, but since I was a first-time mom I didn’t have an old car seat to trade in. So, in that same group I asked if anyone had an extra car seat that I could have for the trade-in. A mom wrote me back right away that I could have her old car seat base (you can trade in a car seat, base or stroller). I picked it up the next day and went straight to Target. I threw it in the giant cardboard box full of goldfish-logged car seats, got my coupon, and waited. And waited, and waited until my Bob went on super sale. The coupons don’t last forever so make sure you check the expiration date before you do this, but the stars aligned for me and Target had the Bob for over $120 off. I used my coupon in addition to the sale and got my very own brand new Bob stroller nearly half off. It’s been almost 5 years and it’s still our go-to stroller. It’s been to grandma and grandpa’s in Minnesota, Austin for a work conference, Hawaii (stroller naps with the time change are clutch), and on hundreds and hundreds of walks. I highly recommend it.

Target is not paying me to say this, but hey, Target, if you want to sponsor The Park I’d be all in.
